I have been a member of the TCA since 2002 and a member of the LCCA for over 5 years. I just got my renewal notice from the TCA. There was no convention and it appears that there won’t be a Eastern Division meet (York) this year. I know a lot of people are only in the TCA because of York. Will the lack of events damage these organizations? I am looking at a $50.00 renewal and questioning the expense myself. I really like the TCA. Their overhead expenses due to their museum, staff and library could be detrimental . If enough people decide not to renew can these organizations survive?

Yep their done for now? ... I didn't re-ante this year and I received a question air why I left the TCA. I will rejoin when there is a meet. I surmise many will do the same? Seriously, what will really kill the meats is the dealers. Their is a serious trend of the dealers bring only stuff that doesn't sell to York. Keeping the popular items back at the shop to yield a higher price. This is what will kill the meets.

The 8-Ball is very wise.

That's a very good question... and like many questions, the devil is in the details.
For example... I registered and PAID for the April 2020 York. Since that meet was canceled, the TCA told us the ticket is good for the October 2020 York. But what happens WHEN -- not if -- that meet is also canceled? My membership expires at the end of August 2020, and I'm seriously considering not renewing.
Truth be told, I've only been a TCA member STRICTLY BECAUSE OF YORK. And I know hundreds if not thousands of members are in the same boat. Now we're staring at the strong likelihood of 2 meets canceled in 2020, and inklings of an April 2021 meet being canceled also. So for those folks like me who've joined the TCA just to attend York shows, why should we renew? Just to donate to the TCA?
I'm not yet convinced.

No, No, No... I'm sure very few will renew w/o a train show. However, will not their operating expense be reduced as well? I am sure they can weather the storm until the next meet in Oct 2021.

The TCA has several full time employees to run the museum, library and to manage the organization. There is also the upkeep on the building. These expenses with reduced income may became a serious issue for the TCA.

I myself have not renewed my tca but will when these restrictions are over. I only joined in 1985 to go to York.

Like the above my only reason for TCA is York. I did not renew either. The museum is very nice but a big money pit. And with the China virus all around us I'm sure the summer tourist season will be a bust for them.

Yes I too have been a member since ‘03. I still will support the TCA with my membership for at least another year, until we see what happens with YORK. Maybe this might be the change the ED needs to put YORK a once a year event? Seems to me the meet has been on the downside for a few years, with less vendors being there. Might just make sense to the ED just to have it a yearly event?

It’s not the TCA’s fault that the virus forced everything to close. TCA income is certainly down, and i am sure their expenses are the same. TCA needs our support now more than ever. $50 isn’t going to make, or break me.
I want TCA and York to be around when the virus is done, so I will renew my membership.

I think that’s a real possibility, and the pandemic will be the final catalyst to make that happen. Whether we wanna admit it or not, we are creatures of habit... and we’re learning to do without. Our churches opened up well over a month ago here in PA, and they’re nowhere near back to normal attendance. I’ve been attended since they opened, and there’s been no change in the attendance during that time — still about 10-15% capacity at most. And this is a huge building that was normally standing-room-only at all Masses. 😳 People have just not come back. I expect the same with train shows, until people are CONFIDENT they won’t catch this thing... which means a proven vaccine and/or therapeutics.

As an afterthought, train shows everywhere will not happen. Clubs as well. Being the oldest member of D3R I will not be attending club meets. It's a sad situation that won't change till some kind of protection is offered us. Of course that will be after the rich and famous get theirs.
