This engine is being offered by Lionel in a weathered version by Harry Hieke. They did not show a weathered version in the catalog, but here is what it will look like after Harry is done with them.

You would think that Lionel would have a photo of the engine weathered to help increase sales. Sure, a photo of a dapper guy like Harry is nice, but I am not sure it sells engines.

I had Harry do some subtle weathering of my new Lionel 746 "J", and the results were fabulous.

Beautiful engine SCOTT. Is the boiler light grey? If so very nice. But a bit pricey for me.

And because it’s a special-run, there’s likely to be no further price discounts.
As sharp-looking as it is, I’m done with those large engines. Have plenty already. It felt great to not be tempted by any of the real big-ticket locomotives in the last catalog. The 4-6-0 was more my kinda speed. 😊

Interesting.... I stand corrected on the pricing. Looks like Steve IS discounting his special-run down to the price-point most dealers are selling the regular-run 2-8-8-2's during their "early buy" pre-order period. He just announced the incentive in an attempt to bolster reservations so the locomotive gets built.
Still not chump-change, but a $120 discount is better in your pocket than the dealer's if you're interested in obtaining this. It's not for me, but the white-walls do stand out.

Seriously that is the code and it is good for any of the 2-8-8-2's Scott Smith

Yes.... that's the discount code that gives the extra $120 off the price on the website. If you ordered from Steve before this promo, Steve said he adjusted the price for you.
It's a good practice to keep all your pre-orders and prices straight, because Lord knows WHEN this stuff will actually arrive. And if you're like me, you'll probably forget what the prices were by the time pre-orders arrive 12-18 months later.
That's one of the reasons I like Charlie Ro. They keep EXCELLENT records of your pre-orders via email. And now they have a new system that generates a complete list of your pre-order(s) WITH pricing too. So it's easier to stay organized.
I don't pre-order much these days. But what little I might do, it's nice to keep things as organized as possible... so there are no surprises 12-18 months out. Just sayin'.

The problem with Pre-order is it comes in ALL at once. Last two Decembers I was out lots of coin! Thanks to my LHS he has a layaway plan!
This Christmas the GS1 and the bs6 switcher will come in on the same day with my luck...
