Department 56 has put out Model Railroad Shop for one of their new buildings this year. It has a small train running in the center of the building as shown in the video below. The cost is $185 Retail. Some places will provide free shipping but generally Department 56 buildings are sold at retail price. This would be nice addition to a Christmas layout or even a display peice.  |

That is a beautiful piece Ken. If I were going to buy Dept. 56 buildings they would be set up as a nice Christmas Village during the Holidays. For us to put them on a train layout the amount required would be prohibitively expensive.

Thanks Ken, I will have to check it out. Last year, in the Menard's Enchanted Village Collection, they came out with the building below that also has a moving train similar to the D56 model. But, it was half the price.  |

I took a closer look at this offering by Department 56 this afternoon. It is in their Christmas in the City collection. I am a big fan of D56, but this one is a real foul ball in my opinion. It is relatively small, no special lighting, and the moving train, been there done that. At $ 185.00, not for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe the price.

It kind of hard for me to put that much money into building if I were considering it unless it was something I really wanted. I realize Department 56 tends to be on more pricey side with their buildings. I think they could have made this building more Christmas like with maybe some lighted trees or even Christmas lights around the building. I do like your tower better.

For those that are interested, Lemax, the other big village manufacturer, has their 2020 Holday catalog online. Lemax mostly appears in retail stores so their village stuff does not come out until the fall. We are very choosy about what we add to our layout at this point. We have to take something out to make room for a new offering. This new D56 building does not come close to something we would add.

I just looked at photo of the back side of the Model Railroad Shop building. Something is wrong here...  Could it be that Dept 56 is using the same factory where Lionel makes some of their products! |
