If true they didn't do a bucket test, the pilots didn't notice the wrong truck pulled up the fuel the aircraft, the fueler had no clue what he was doing. There's a mod to make sure you don't put the wrong fuel in just like when you go to the gas station and can't put diesel in a gas car vis=versa. Was that done? Again just a rumor, and not verified. I can't stress that enough.

I have just looked at the footage and listened to the audio of this tragic event. My heart goes out to all of those involved.

Very sad news indeed and a tragic loss of life.
Over here in the UK B17s are held in very high regard as there were so many of them based here back in the day - they have passed into the "folk-law" of WW2 for us "Brits".
My condolences to all effected.
MIKE

I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers on this. Yes, one of the crewmen I knew personally and also lives here in Jacksonville, Co-Pilot Michael Foster, he was 71 and an excellent pilot. The pilot I had met several times, Ernest McCauley. Both excellent pilots in handling these great planes. I will miss both. From calls I received and made apparently after rotating #4 engine started coughing and died. Call was made to return to airport and all flights incoming were stopped as the B17 turned to return on 3 engines. What happened after touch down is still speculation. Plane wing made contact with a landing instrument station, veered right into a De-Icing facility. 2 crewmen pilot and co-pilot were killed. There were 13 aboard, 3 crewmen, 10 passengers. 5 passengers perished. The Flight Engineer was injured and may give insight on what happened.
As a personal note: I've had engine failures, in fact I started my last tour with an inflight failure of #1, but we continued on to our first stop, landed safely and worked through the night to repair. My biggest surprise was my last landing, my wife was there to record it and there was a retirement party waiting for me. Both surprises, not knowing my wife would be there, nor the party. Again, appreciate posts and reply's, but this is a Model Railroading Forum. If interested, this is what the wife recorded.

It was reported on YouTube addressing the rumor I put fourth. They tested the gas in the surviving wing and it tested 100 octane regular piston engine gas. So much for that theory
