I’ve got a confession. I’m fascinated with General Stores and related businesses like the old Chemist, Druggist or the 5&10.
These little businesses, while struggling are still around in many small towns. New England is know for them. We have a great little General Store in the center of our town.
They are often more than a business. They act as town gathering places, landmarks, pubs, and inspiration.
I’ve got two on my layout. I’d love to see your General Stores!
Adam, I do like this thead idea, however it appears not many of us have a general store, myself included. I have fond memories of the F.W. Woolworth store in Freeport, ME when I was a child in the early 50's. It was the place for household supplies, clothing, "notions", pets, small inexpensive toys and ice cream at the "Lunch" counter. My Mother often took us there and we were able to get permission for a small one dollar toy of our choice.
I’ve got similar fond memories Wood. In the NJ town we lived in there was a 5&10 store and I remember picking toys from the toy section. Of course I’d play with it for maybe an hour before it became boring.
