Menards and RMT freight cars (at least boxcars and hoppers) are the same. Just different color schemes. And from looking at some photos of Williams cars, they also look to be the same.
Anyone buy Williams freight cars recently? Are they the same as Menards and RMT?

Wish I could help, Bob. Only passenger cars here.

Compared side by side you would see differences. Menards early cars had truck problems that has supposedly been corrected. If your not into scale I would try Menards.

Generally, though, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of OEMing (relabeling) happening in the industry. it happens in virtually every other goods industry as well.

I don't collect many freight cars - or rather I have collected a number that I seldom run - but I have seen examples of all three product lines you mention.
It would not surprise me in the least if Menards and RMT cars were from the same manufacturing source. The RMT products have been "recycled" often enough that an overlap is really unavoidable.
But I would regard the Williams freight cars I have as distinctly better than the other two. The ones I have are boxcars and a few years old but they are quality stuff. If you are only going by Williams catalog images it's hard to make an accurate comparison.

Exactly. That’s why I was wondering if anyone has newer Williams cars. And I should have specified that the cars I’m wondering about are the RMT cars produced since Walter came out of retirement, the Menards cars are the ones made in the last 5 to 8 years or so (not the ones that Lionel produced for Menards) and the Williams cars are current production.
The RMT and Menards boxcars and hoppers are identical designs so it’s hard to justify the extra bucks for an RMT unless it has a road name or color scheme that you can’t get from Menards. The Williams cars have a much higher MSRP, but can probably be had for about the same as RMT cars. I’m wondering if the price difference can be justified for a buyer like myself. One way or another I’ll know in a few weeks when I check them out at York.

I don't have anything from RMT but I have a number of Menards boxcars and a hopper and I like them all. The only Williams cars I have are a 4 car set of Madison type heavyweights and a caboose. They are Williams, not Williams by Bachmann, but they are well made and I am happy with them. Unfortunately, they don't help with the comparison.

When I go downstairs later on today I'll look to see if I have any Williams freight cars. I have a lot of Menards cars to compare them to.

Other than the numbers on cars it appears to me that a B&O box car from the three are the same. I am not a rivet counter and have difficulty seeing the difference in similar cars from the same company.
