Houston, we have a problem. What has so far been my most reliable running, a 4-4-0 Williams (by Bachmann if that matters) conventional engine, has simply stopped running. The switch is in run mode. I can get it to run for a few minutes (sometimes only seconds) if I turn off/on track power a few times (seems like I get lucky), but then it just stops. The light stays on and, if the smoke switch is on, it will sit there and smoke. It just doesn't run. Other engines run just fine on the track, so I know track power is good. I lubricated the wheels and articulation. Any ideas?

Call off the dogs!
I think I fixed it. I believe there was a short at the switch that allows you to lock it into forward or reverse. I separated the wires a bit better and now she is running beautifully as usual.

It's irritating when an engine stops working for no apparent reason but it feels great to find the problem and fix it yourself. Emile

I was surprised when I read your first post. I always thought of Williams locos as bullet proof.

Yes, happy it was nothing serious. These engines are very simple and known for reliability, so I was scratching my head. I will need to do more testing but I think that was the problem. Those are small wires so it was a bit hard to tell for sure.

Good to hear it was an easy fix. I'll have to keep this in mind if my Williams engine has similar issues.

I'm glad it was an easy fix, Adam. It's nice with things work out like that.
