As a kid Lionel's Model Railing book was my train bible. Very old with loose pages, I still have it. Model RRing? yes but still they are toys.

This is a great topic. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. The only thing that's important to me is that the manufacturers recognize that there are people in multiple camps. But I do think the "Modelers" and "True Scale" group is growing significantly and will be the key to a successful future. Not that the traditional toy train group is diminishing but I do see younger modelers like myself more interested in true scale and prototypically accurate trains.

I’m a Toy Train Model Railroader sometimes using Scale Models of Toy Trains to Model my Toy Train Empire. I keep a tight tolerance on scale by using only 1/43 or 1/48 or 1/50 or even 17/16’s except when I use forced perspective and go down to 1/87, but otherwise, I am very strict about scale and demand my 3 Rail Scale Model Trains exhibit no compromise when operating on 3 rail track.
Being in this elite group is very rewarding as I congratulate myself on a job well done.

I just didn't spend over two grand on 3rdrail F3 ABA set to call it a toy. Highly detailed models of the real thing. Even if the wife calls them toys
