This pic was taken in my hometown. The delivery of M1 at the C&EI Depot, Jan.2, 1936.

Some manufacturer should jump on this one. Looks like a camper on rails.

WINNEBAGO for the rails!! Gary. Yeah, but how do you get it to a KOA campsite? George It appears that it may be a hi-rail vehicle since it has a railroad wheel set mounted between the traditional rear wheels/tires of a truck, so you simply pick up the railroad wheels and drive it there They also had this oddball on the roster... It appears that the CA&S (Chicago, Attica, & Southern) was dumped out of the C&EI during a bankruptcy restructuring in the 1920's and it was never a financially stable railroad through its demise in the 1940s. The motor cars were likely just there to help it limp along without the expense of running steam. The Rio Grande Southern Galloping Goose's and the Strasburg Railroad's Plymouth locomotive were acquired/built for similar reasons. More pictures here: monon.org/bygone_site/rr/cas.html

Thanks for the info Jake! I tried to find more pics for Walter's Winnebago yesterday. No luck though. Found what was left of one. Gary. Thanks Gary. Like I wrote in several posts, I collect pictures and History of buildings and the railroads that went through my hometown, and there were many at the crossroads. UP, SF, Milwaukee, NYC, C&EI, IC, etc. My interest started when I realized we had a roundhouse and shop at edge of town and so little has changed over the decades and started collecting pics, newspaper articles, etc. to learn more. Here's a pic dated 1911 and how town looked in 2015. One reason many motion and TV filmed there.

Cool photos Walter!! I like the biplane in the top shot! I can also see why the town has been used for filming and I'm sure I've seen movies with that Main Street in it.
Gary.

Here's a pic of the new Ford that C&EI in Momence received for rail travel. Interesting in that one can easily modeled also for layout.
