I decided to run my little Santa Fe consists. The GP9 is one of the first engines I bought when I got back to the hobby and before I got any Legacy engines. Attachments:

Sharp looking units! I always liked the blue and yellow scheme...

Nothing wrong with running in conventioal mode. I am running our new MTH Sante Fe F units in that mode.

Nice engines Denny. They look great on your layout. I've always liked the ATSF blue and yellow freight paint scheme.

Nothing wrong with running in conventional mode. I am running our new MTH Sante Fe F units in that mode. I have to admit that I run almost everything in conventional mode, including legacy and Vision Line gear. Once in awhile I fire up some Train talk or blowdown steam or whatever, but mostly I just want to see them run around the track with nothing more than an occasional whistle/horn. Never the bell. Having theme layouts like we both Emile and I share an interest in, I can understand conventional mode very well. I do use Legacy for all but the new MTH engines. They run so well and the lights and sounds are very good. Wood made a suggestion to me that I try running them in comnventional mode. Turned out to be an excellent solution.

I didn't realize how much Santa Fe rolling stock I have. Three of the cars are from Menards.

While I agree there is nothing wrong with running conventionally I almost never do it for three reasons:
1) My layout is large enough to walk around and I prefer to have the controller in hand as I move around the layout;
2) I usually run two trains on one track which is difficult as best with conventional control; and
3) I use one transformer (180 Watt Power Brick) for all three trains so the only way I can control individual tracks is with the variable voltage option on my DCS TIU, which I sometimes do to run a conventional only locomotive.
