Memorial Day is a day that I personally observed for a long time. Even though I am Canadian I have always felt that those BRAVE SOULS who perished on so many battlefields insured not only my personal rights and freedoms but those of millions more. As Gary posted My Maternal Grand father gave the ULTIMATE SACRAFICE during the Italian Campaign during World War 2. I never had the chance to meet my Grandfather. Therefore when the World becomes a saner place and it is safe to do so we will travel to Ortona, Italy so I will be able to honor my Grandfather and to say Thank You!! I Am So Grateful, Cheryl.

The Flag pictured below flies off of our home as does the Canadian Flag and the Flag of The United States Of America during the year. I am thankful there has been a resurgence of pride in Canada and pride in our National History despite the efforts of some of our elected officials who throughout the years have tried their best to diminish it! Gary. My thanks for remembering those that haven't come home. Here's a clip from a movie that was very emotional for a very good reason. I remember seeing a soldier coming home after being MIA, and the family that were there to see him. It was hard for me to watch then, as it still is. It still is a powerful final.
That brought tears to my eyes. When we played army as children, we didn't realize the magnitude of what being a soldier meant.

Hats off to all our Veterans. My DAD along with 4 of his brothers all fought in WWII. They all came back alive. My DAD was hit three times and he got the worst of it but became my DAD, who I miss everyday.
Thank you for those clips. It really makes you want to say a prayer for all the men and women who have served our great nation. Thank you WALTER.

Each time I watch it, it gets me also and yes, my eyes get wet also.

156 years ago President Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. He was specifically speaking about the Union Soldiers who gave their lives in the Civil War, but his words apply to all who have fought for our country and especially all who have died to preserve our nation, our constitution and our way of life, from the Revolution to those fighting today. I also don't think it's too great a stretch to include our allies who gave their lives for the same basic principles.
This is the end of Lincoln's speech and I think it's worth reading and remembering today:
It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Today I especially honor my Great Uncle who served with the U.S. Marines of the 1st Marine Division during the Mariana and Palau Campaign of World War II on the island of Peleliu. (1,000 miles N/NW of New Guinea) He died on September 16, 1944 as one of the early casualties of the two month long Battle of Peleliu. His death certificate lists "Peleliu, Palau Islands” as his place of death.
I also remember and honor my Father who served in the U.S. Navy and then in another Government Agency where he gathered intelligence in the most active and hazardous zones of the Vietnam War. He passed away 2 months ago.
