I keep the old ones. For one, I know they work and with many having new features that the predecessor might not have. There might be issues arising.

Love the sounds on these older F7's. And the first release of this ten wheeler is a must have :

Since I've focused on only buying scale sized equipment the past 25 years, I'm pretty happy with the detail on the items I have. I will not replace any locomotives I have for an electronic or detail upgrade. I'd be more likely to just upgrade the Command Control systems as they come out.
Since I have just about all the major and popular locomotives I ever wanted, future purchases would be for road names only that may catch my eye (Such as the MTH Premier Napa Valley Railroad RS-11 I recently acquired). There are a couple engines I still have my eyes on and I always seem to find something I like in the catalogs. For instance, I like the new Reading T-1's with whistle steam, but I already have an older MTH ProtoSounds 2 model that I'm happy with.

JDADDY, I too had that original Legacy ten wheeler and sold it. After seeing your video I wish I hadn’t, love the whistle.

I’m satisfied with the locomotives I have and plan on no future purchases. I can run only 2 trains at a time and with 3 steam locos and 3 diesels (including the Santa Fe F7 set shown in JD’s video), I’m happy. 😀

I keep what I have if something new and improved comes out. Since most of my trains are family heirlooms, I can't bring myself to part with them anyway. For example, my Williams Niagara, at 30 years old, is more than adequate, especially since I had DCS added to it. While I think the Vision Line Niagara is very impressive, there's no way I would replace my Williams loco with it. And, I don't "need" more than one Niagara. Hudsons are a different story. I can never have too many of those, and someday I'd like to have a Vision Line Hudson, but only if the price is right.

"So my answer is that it depends. Operations is my thing, not collecting. If they work soundly and I like them then no upgrade, If they are so so, then yes I'll go for the newer model. I am still running the lionel #60 trolley. Fits the space, works consistently and I have had it for 60 years. No upgrade. LOL."
Wood, that #60 trolley car must have quite a few miles on it by now!!
