The Lionel Superliners are some of the nicest passenger cars that they have produced. We have the Alaska RR vresion. The Alaska cars are very appealing. I seem to recall, Brian, that you once posted some images of where your set was displayed. Were it not for the fact that all my storage space is taken up, and the cars are very difficult to find, I would be tempted by them.
(P.S. These are old and slightly inadequate images but they are good as illustrating two of the Alaska cars and the color scheme used by Lionel:)
The same goes for the Surfliners. Having seen the real thing once in San Diego, I regard myself as a fan. That said, I can't recall who made them in O scale! I think that there were K-Line and MTH versions and if so I know which I'd prefer.

Andy, yes, lots of photos in the past of the Alaska set. It is now on a shelf in our living room. Still enjoy looking at it.

Hard to pick a favorite, but if I can only pick one, I guess it would be this baggage car.
Hey Lehigh. We have the Lionel Mark Twain version. The baggage car is awesome!

My favorite is the Lionel heavyweight made both in the prewar and postwar eras. Most collectors refer to the prewar versions as "Manhattan" cars, and the postwar are mostly known as "Irvington" or "Madison" cars. Whatever name, these are my favorite. Here's a more modern version, made to scale by K-Line. These are a great mix of old and new: they're the same color as the prewar Lionel cars, with the same names, and lettered for NYC instead of Lionel Lines. Here's the K-Line "28th Anniversary" set running behind my Lionel 5340 scale Hudson. 2 different brands, but they make a nice train. KLine28thAnn.mp4 (4.39 MB)
