Hi All - In the new MTH catalog 2020 Vol 2 there is a MTH premier diesel engine I am considering buying. This would be my first MTH engine purchase. I have been slowly going to Hi Rail scale (Fixed pilots / Kadees etc). But I have a couple of questions on the premier diesel engine features.
1) The scaled wheel version comes with a fixed pilot correct ?
2) If I purchase the Hi-Rail conversion wheels, does the kit come with center rail rollers?
Thanks In Advance

I think that the answer to your first question is yes as that is how these engines are described on the MTH website page that explains the differences between the various wheel options: www.mthtrains.com/news/254I also think that the answer to your second question is yes judging by a different website page but depending on exactly which set you order: mthtrains.com/proto-scale-32I have not done such a conversion myself, however, and don’t know if or how you’d have a 2 rail engine run on a 3 rail system. P.S. Probably should have asked exactly which MTH model number you are thinking of buying because that info is always relevant when making forum inquiries.

Those are good questions George. I guess the other option is to purchase the 3 rail version and just revise the pilots to attach to the frame.

Hi All - Did get some answers: The scaled wheel version comes with a fixed pilot. Also included is Kadee mounting hardware and center track rollers. All I need for my use is to get the Hi rail wheel kit and swap out the scale wheels for the Hi rail wheels. Install the center trackrollers and kadee couplers. I am thinking this is the way I going to go.

Don't forget to pick up the Kadee height gage, you want to make surety coupler is mounted correctly and will match up to all other rolling stock.

I always use the Kadee height gauge.
