Im in utter disbelief that someone respectfully requesting that you honor your agreement with them rubs you the wrong way. In these times when 84,106 Americans have unexpectedly died, 23,000,000 Americans have lost their jobs and over 100,000 small businesses have closed we have to remember to walk in the other person's shoes. Gary and Scott will works this out. They are both good guys. STAY SAFE.

That's why it's important to develop a healthy relationship with a good dealer... or the importer if you purchase from them directly. I've been purchasing trains from Charlie Ro since the 1970's -- SIX DECADES now. And not once did he ever give me the guilt trip if I "changed my mind", when deliveries ran askew of their original deliver dates. Nor did he give me the run-around if I was unhappy with a particular Lionel purchase, of which there were less than a handful in those 6 decades. Dealers and importers have gotta think long-term. The dividends paid in repeat business over the years are PRICELESS.

Gary and Scott will works this out. They are both good guys. STAY SAFE. You are absolutely correct Wood. We are all in this together. We all want our lives back. We all want to live free from fear. Those of us who aren't retired are in fear of losing their livelihoods and those of us who are retired are in fear of losing their lives. It effects our every decision. In the history of mankind there has never been anything close to this level of Worldwide fear and uncertainty. We are all looking for answers that may not exist. It's frustrating that we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but solutions are on the horizon and this will eventually be behind us. Until then, we have to take a step back and realize that most people are not good in a crisis and that everyone is living in crisis. All we can expect from ourselves and from others in the meantime is to do the best that we can.

You know there's some that have a clue and some that post and prove they don't Respectfully, Sorry I think Scott was wrong to use the words he used. My Opinion. Honor our agreement, Yes I'm all for it. If my lose my job I would hope Scott understands I'll be unable to honor our agreement. Otherwise as of now I have a plan to pay in full when they arrive at Scott's doorstep.
As of now the company I work for has received the forgivable loans from the gov to keep us employed through mid July. Work is trickling in. What I need from all of you is to start flying again.
I'll thank those who understand, and give a stern look at those who don't. I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

I reread it again for a 3rd time. Please explain to me what is wrong with his email. Im also sure this was most likely the 3rd invoice you received, so your bill shouldn't have come as a surprise.

Matt, I am not trying to answer for Gary, but my guess is that he was venting. He is laid off and does not know if he will ever get his job back. If that happens how does he pay for it? I think most of the posts here covered exactly what you are saying.. I am only trying to give a little break to members who are facing horrible consequences of this Pandemic. I can sympathize because I am in the same boat. I own a small business and we are scrambling to keep it alive. It is very stressful and I have vented inappropiatly on many occasions. Spending money on trains has been curtailed for me.

"If my lose my job I would hope Scott understands I'll be unable to honor our agreement."
From this comment by Gary and his other previous remarks, I don't believe he has been laid off during this difficult time for many. Bottom line, I believe that Scott Mann is the type of individual that will work with any of his customers if they have unique circumstances. Charlie correctly pointed out that this is a personal matter between Gary and Scott. Personally, I would have never started a thread like this under the circumstances presented, but thank goodness we have an OGF where all opinions are allowed as long as they are tastefully stated.
Hopefully, this thread has helped Gary in dealing with this issue for him.

Im not saying he does or doesn't have to pay for it, or can or cant pay for it. I don't necessarily care if he pays for it or not. At the end of the day, if you're out of work or don't have the money then you cant be paying for expensive luxury items such as this. In my opinion, he is shaming Scott for somehow not giving him a deal because of the current crisis. This bill was expected and was the 3rd one he received (I've purchased a thing or 2 from Scott so I know how he operates) so he should not have been surprised by it. All I see, is Scott communicating to his customers that if they are in a situation, he has ways that he can work things out with people and they not cancel their orders because they were built at the customers request. I have been known to order my models form Scott and immediately start making payments on them. Most people do not know that you can put deposits down and pay in payments. He chose to make it a public issue and then proceeded to tell me how I don't have a clue, so please, enlighten and give me the clue I don't have. What is wrong with what Scott said?'

Since we launched the OGF last September, we have not had to close a single thread. I sure don't want to start now.
So I am asking, please let's end the discussion now politely. I don't think further posts serve any useful purpose.
Thanks.

Gary posted:

So, to take this thread in a different direction I do have a question that Gary might be able to answer - not train related.
Since many commercial jets have been parked for two or more months now, how long or what procedures need to be done to get a plane back to current status?
Maybe, a better way to ask, if you have a 737 sitting on the apron someplace in Arizona and a call comes in to get a plane ready for commercial travel, when could the plane be reasonably ready for use?

No apologies necessary, Matt.
It is just a good time to end this discussion with the cooperation of our membership.
Thanks again.

YES MATT!! THAT IS CORRECT! You won't get a nasty email. When the cow has been drawn, quartered, eaten, and shat out I for one am not going to sit down for a new meal with the end result. It's time to go grocery shopping. Kindest Regards, Gary.

The way I read Scott's email is he's "asking" not to cancel instead of "demanding" and holding you to a contract with threats. He then goes on to offer options to work things out. In other words, you have an option to cancel if it's a last resort and the money just isn't there the way I read it. I'm sure he's worried about his survival as well as the survival of the rest of us and is trying to be fair as possible. To sum it up, I've ran across some hard nose dealers over the years and Scott's email just doesn't strike as hard nose.
As a side note, we are in a world of uncertainty for sure. I just can't picture the Feds allowing this lock down putting us into a depressionary state of poverty. That would be more lethal to our health than the virus itself. Last week I entered an "essential" job site where they measured our body temperature digitally and issued face masks. I could be wrong but it told me screening methods are going into effect and they will just get better in order for us to stay working or go back to work.
