I took out my PW 681 to run with a set of Baby Madison cars I got. Half of them had been converted to 6 wheel trucks. These are pre '77 cars so the under body boxes weren't modified to run with these larger trucks. Simple solution found. #8 flat washers for spacers. Solved the binding problem. So the rest of the cars I mounted 6 wheel trucks to as well. Just waiting for the Diner to come in from ebay and I'll have a nice set to run behind my S-2. I also found my old Steamsounds tender. The S-2 didn't chuff like a regular steam engine, so I removed the wheel set with the magnet that activated the chuff sound and replaced it with a standard set ( second video), and yes, the PW tender shell fit perfectly on the frame. I guess it sounds ok, not as good as my Imperial Rail King S-2, but works for a Post War.

Just curious, what do the 4 wheel trucks you are replacing look like?

These are the ones without couplers. These cars had the cheap non operating screw in couplers.

Ok. I was looking for 4 wheel trucks to convert my MTH CNJ Madison cars to the correct wheel arrangements.
I need something a bit more scale. The ones you show are the right style, but not really scale I guess...
Thanks for posting the pic.

You're welcome. These are off the Baby Madison cars. They are a bit smaller than the MTH trucks. I think the MTH ones look a lot better anyway.

They are a bit compressed, but they probably worked great. The MTH trucks are definitely an upgrade. Good job figuring out the hardware issue!
I have a CNJ camelback and I wanted a small “commuter” train to put behind it. I bought the MTH set of Madison cars, but they are all 6 wheel trucks. The CNJ didn’t used them much if at all, even on their long distance trains.
I found a bunch of 2rail Atlas cars, so I am checking to see if the Atlas 4 wheel trucks for 3 rail will fit on their 2 rail coaches...

That will be interesting to see. I've had luck with a couple of Atlas truck sets on Lionel. Never tried them on MTH.
