So I did a thing. LOL I'm paranoid about blowing the electronics in my K-Line Starlite Diner and Lionel Hobby Shop with over voltages. Both run just fine on 12v. However, my Z4K has accessory provisions for 10v and 14v. I could have used the 14v, but that's kinda pushing it for the diner IMHO. Soooooo, I decided to see what each accessory was drawing as far as amperage. The diner draws 300mA (lights & sound only), while the hobby shop draws only 100mA, even with all the train sets running. Then I went shopping for AC power supplies. I found that 500mA was the minimum current rating, and that's all I needed. 9.95 ea plus shipping. Here's the AC-AC 12v 500mA power supplies I used: And here is the result! NOTE: This 500mA AC power supply WILL NOT run the K-Line Diner smoke unit. You will need a much higher rated power supply for that. I only run my lights.

Excellent tip and video Trey! Thanks for sharing it. I have always saved Wall Warts from old electronics in case I find a match like you have.

Remember guys, there is a difference in power supplies. Any accessory that can run off of our track power uses AC not DC. Most wall warts output DC, not AC. Will the accessory most likely have a bridge rectifier inside? Yes, but don't count on it. Feed your accessories the proper type of power.

I have learned a lot about power supplies as we sure have a lot of lights for the layout. We keep going at this rate, the power company will have to set up a sub-station for us.

Great information and just in time!!!!! Thanks............... Glad to help out Joe. Here's another tip... on an AC power supply, the wire that has a white stripe or dashes is always the neutral. The Black wire is the load. In track terms, black is your center rail, the striped is your common.
