Nice pics JOSEF. That last pic reminds me of the engine down in Houston that comes out after an Astros homerun.

The 4-4-0 happens to be my favorite Locomotive. I'm a huge fan of old West history and these trains were, of course, at the center of Western expansion. Their ornate nature just makes them feel surreal to me. Almost cartoon-like in the way they look.
I have two of them.
The first is a very basic set from the 80s (called "the James Gang Train Set") that happens to be my very first train set. It's a DC only train (but I added a rectifier so it can run on AC), with no special features (no whistle, etc.). However, it still runs and is a staple on my upper loop! The lamp doesn't actually have a light in it, but I may add one.
The second is a set from the 60s (called the "Frontiersman Set") that I picked up at Amherst early this year. It has become my favorite train to look at. Very detailed, ornate, with a great looking passenger and mail car as well as a horse flat car, complete with horses. Seems to be very well made. Runs well.

Really nice pic's. A special event you will always remember.
As for my layout and only mine. I run what I like anytime.

No excuse needed for me! The Lionel General is the set I grew up with and the one I remember most from my earliest memory every Christmas season in our basement in Philadelphia. I ran it so much and abused it (I liked to derail it and see the sparks on the Super O track) when I was a young child that it has been repaired several times over the years.
My favorite car was/is the Sheriff and Outlaw car taking turns shooting at each other.

I should mention, inside the car which people went into were about 8 different Diorama, with HO scale engine and cars, depicting the Great Locomotive Chase. The walls also had pictures of the Civil War with pictures of engines, engine houses, posters and a newspaper of the time of the capture of the raiders. Besides the General, the dioramas were awesome.

Great photos of a wonderful engine, Josef. The fact that you like the General and have a personal connection to it is more than enough reason to run it on your layout.
