Tthe unique thing I found about this museum was the train lanterns they still use on the switches. I have not seen this anywhere else.

It looks like a great place to visit. Maybe next time my wife and I are in Wisconsin visiting her sister I can talk her into going there.

Me and wife went every year till we moved to Florida up to North Freedom. We would come early 6AM to watch the fire up 4-6-0. She still was coal fired and the smell of the engine I can still remember. We watched her hook up to the passenger cars and caboose and test run before openings. Miss going there. We were there for her last run in the 90s. I have videos of our visits, if I have time will download to Youtube and share same.

Do they still call the line "Rattlesnake Line"? Here's one of the souvenirs my wife bought last time there, a small candy dish which mow resides in my layout room.

Todays Wisconsin State Journal had a story that yesterday (Sept 26th) the boiler was lowered on to the frame of 1385. According to the story, it is still unclear when it will return to North Freedom. With the exception of this past year, SPEC Machine in Middleton Wi had an open house in February the same weekend as our local(Madison Wi) train show. SPEC Machine is where the majority of the work has taken place. The new boiler just arrived from St. Louis. I was reminded in the story of the original price for the boiler work, $125,000. It was found to need a complete overhaul. It is now $2 million!
