Hi Guys- I have a set of Lionel BB-1 "rats" that when I start up the sound unit immediately shuts down after 3 seconds. I can restart via the remote but then it shuts down repeatedly after 3 seconds. The cycle repeats on its own and I confirmed that no signal is being sent to tell it to shut down because no light from the base is flashing during this event. My initial root cause is the radio board is giving a false signal to shut down, as usual NO board is available at Lionel. Is it possible there is something else that could be telling the sound board to receive a command to shut down?

I have a NYC S1 electric that the same thing happened some years ago. It was the radio board that was failing. Lucky for me Lionel still had them in stock at the time. It has ran perfect since then.
In years past a short will also give the same issue sometimes.
Good luck,
Dave

Thanks Pat, I will try the reset. But I believe the radio board is shot. Is there another board replacement that I can buy since Lionel say this one is not available? The board is much smaller than the normal R2R4 board.
