516 hopper with stickers on the sides, how would one remove without hurting the paint. You can see it has original stampings on the sides. Hard to see but there there.

Looks like there's some faint decals as well (I don't think the 516 had "stampings" from the factory). Not sure how best to remove, as prewar paint can be fragile. A little MicroSol might lift off the decals. Stickers can be tough. Peel off what you can, then try a little bit of Goo-Gone, maybe...be careful.

Hmmm, that’s interesting. I have two, and neither has stamped markings, just the plates, and I’m confident they’re not repainted. Have never seen this before, but then I’m not big into standard gauge. I stand corrected.

Okay, the two I have are the cheap version, lol.
Water and mild soap might be the best route for removing those stickers. I’ve marred some prewar paint on Flyer tin using Goo-Gone,so best to try something milder first.

The 516 with the stamped data only came in a coal train set. A 390 engine with 3 516 coal cars and a 517 caboose in the early 30s. That's why they are more expensive. Set # 393E

If they are stickers, try a hair dryer. decals would take a careful approach. Maybe WD40.
