When I had a single family house we always went all out for the holidays. We decorated the entire frame of the house starting the first week of November. We had 8 full size reindeers , a sleigh all outlined in lights. Every window outlined in lights. The drive way outlined in lights.
Now with the outside done we moved inside that included every room inside and 3 fully decorated Christmas trees. Btw lights galore inside also. Then we moved back outside to lay all the cables, cords for the lights.
We had to be done by Thanksgiving and we were every year. I was working 55 hours a week also.
I couldn't have done it without my brother who I dearly miss!!

His decorating regimen sure beats ours...and we're pretty good at getting seasonal decorations out!

I just put some lights outside. I'm going to do my annual light testing to see what still works. Then go outside and run the appropriate extension cords all green of course.
The $%&%$$ squirrels chewed up a lot of my lights.

But was the mailbox placed the correct distance from the curb according to federal postal regulations?

Our house decorating is pretty simple. About 20 years ago we bought one of those wreaths you hang on the front door which was made from real Douglas Fir branches and had a bright red bow in the center. We hang it outside every year. Of course the needles have fallen off and the red bow is looking a bit tatty, worn, and wilted but it still gives the door a visual lift. As for outdoor lights, the string we had got so tangled up it is just one big ball so I hang the ball over the garage entrance in place of the usual driveway light - when I turn it on it looks like a huge Christmas ornament.

The $%&%$$ squirrels chewed up a lot of my lights. I have had this problem in the past; found that if I spray the lower few feet with animal repellent, that keeps the spiteful lil' buggers off them. However, you gotta respray after any rain or snowfall.

I understand every year I said I'm not doing this again but every year I did it anyway. It was fun every time I finished and could sit back and enjoy the view. If I had a house now I would do it again but hire a crew to do it. When your young you can do anything you want but as you get older it gets harder and harder. Do it now Adam because one day you will not be able to. Build your dream layout now to whatever size you can, enjoy it, have fun, don't keep putting it off. Before you know it it will be too hard to do it!! Remember guys life is to be enjoyed and life on this earth is finite and as NIKE says, "JUST DO IT" DAVE
