I saw a video tonight of a guy who bought his first engine from a Lionel catalog. It was a Lionchief 2-4-2 engine and tender in the pacemaker scheme. The young man was between 16-18 if that. He was very excited to get the box from the train store which was trainworld in NY.
He normally runs post war, MPC. He was really excided and for me it was great seeing him doing the review like it was a $2000 engine.
As for me all I see is reviews of very expensive trains and train sets but this one was more enjoyable because it really meant something to this kid.
We all enjoy our trains no matter the price but this kid is what the hobby is all about, buying a first train you really wanted. I hope he enjoys the hobby forever!!!
