The ZW-L has four built in powermasters allowing for control in command mode using a remote, either a CAB2 or Cab 1L handheld.
The only issue I have is they do not have the same features as the TPC’s when it comes to operating MTH PS2/3 engines. The TPC’s had specific startup sequences for operating the MTH engines.
Someone mentioned that they could be reprogrammed to provide those features.
Anyone know anything about possible reprogramming. I just don’t understand why Lionel didn’t do this in the first place when they had a second generation run of the ZW-L’s. I have a second generation version.

Easy, Lionel doesn't care if you can run your MTH engines or not. Remember the TPC were developed by IC controls before Lionel purchased the line back in the day. Only reason why you can control MTH with a TPC 300/400. As if reprogramming your ZW, that's news to me. Good luck

The same person that developed the TPC’s also had some input in the design of the Lionel ZW-L. I plan to reach out to him to see if it is a programming issue.

Lionel was smart in the day when they purchased IC Controls and Train America Studios. Kept the talent behind both companies and got some really good features still incorporated in our trains then Lionel got stupid and they all left.

However, Lionel has had Lou doing some consulting work and he was instrumental in the development of the ZW-L.
