It's been over a decade since I've installed any track to the layout. When I built my layout with a mix of Ross and Gargrave track I used a cutting wheel on my Dremel. I decided to expand the amount of yard space with my Son when he's on leave from the Army this Christmas. Should be a good learning experience for him for his own layout someday.
What's everyone using these days cutting Ross/Gargrave track?

I tried using a chainsaw but it made a big mess. Went back to the Dremel tool and fiber disks.

Gary, sounds like the disc-cutting method seems to be a favorite. Since I'm in the Stone Age- or Tin Age, I use a hack saw and metal file on my post war Lionel tubular track. Fortunately, I don't do much cutting - only one piece a few few weeks ago. That was to make a test piece - it worked - however, I need to make another piece to actually install on the layout. Alfred

I had both an AC and battery version. The battery version was not as fast and did not last long. Maybe Dremel has improved that longevity.

I have a good supply of surplus det cord. It does a great job but you need to do the cutting outdoors.

GarGraves is what I use, tricky getting a clean-cut. Having a Dremel table saw, removed the wood blade. Replacing it with an angle grinder cut-off wheel, enlarged the hole. Pep

Sorry, but I gave it away a long time ago. What I remember is the battery version had two speeds while the AC version had multiple variable speeds. I think the Home Depot and Lowes sells both so maybe you can check it out before ordering on line.

After watching a few reviews of dremel and other rotary tools I’m going with the dremel 8250.

After watching a few reviews of dremel and other rotary tools I’m going with the dremel 8250. That model is a far cry from the one I had. Looks good. Are you getting it with the complete accessory package I saw on Amazon for $99. Looks like a deal.
