My Lionel Docksider drive cooked itself a few months back - both motor and board gave me a smoke show. Does anyone have a recommendation for a beefier replacement motor and electronics? I’m not interested in all the bells and whistles, just a drive. (Also, if that had been my product I would’ve been embarrassed to put such a puny little motor in it - rant over, as you were.) Any and all suggestions appreciated.

If you have the first generation of these (c. 2005?), those motors are known to die. I believe they improved the motor on the subsequent runs - I got a newer one from Lionel parts and it was a direct swap-in. Did the job around 2010 and the loco still runs.

Mine’s from about 2011-2012. I found some info that the later motors need some adapting of the motor mounts but no big problem. The boards are unavailable, so I may have to figure out a Dallee e-unit or something. Dave
