In putting together a dedicated milk train, I was considering motive power options. This set caught my eye to break up for that purpose keeping only the engine and caboose. One of my more prototypical friends did not like the green color of the engine and cautioned about gear box problems.
Anyone have this set who cares to comment on the color and mechanical performance?
As far as the milk cars, I would be using Lionel with the tanks inside the woodside box car/reefer.

I have the set. I never gave thought to the color. I just like it because it’s a 4-4-0. I’ve had no issues with it (so far).

If you're referring to the recent Lionel release of the PRR L1s 2-8-2 Mikado, yes it's greener than most and has the same crummy gearbox that the Legacy K4s did.
Left alone with heavy running, it will likely chew itself apart. Some folks had issues with the gears locking up and I believe this was because the threads weren't cut deep/long enough on the worm.
I've seen these on for less than $700 brand new so if you get one, don't spend more than that. Once you do, send it to harmonyards to straighten out the gearbox.
For the color, some dullcoat and or weathering can tame the green.
