I have a MTH O Scale Premier RS-11 Locomotive with Proto-Sound 3.0 (Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific). Its a nice looking locomotive but I am having trouble with the rear coupler firing randomly.
- I have a simple loop of O-48 Fastrack with no switches or crossings - I am running it conventionally - I cannot pull open the coupler. It only open randomly - It was pulling 5 PS-1 boxcars - I wondered if it could have something to do with my recently installed Base-3. However, no other MTH locomotive does this on my layout
Now, I don't car if it ever opens again so if there is a way to prevent it from opening and locking it closed permanently, I would be find with that. Otherwise, what are my repair options? I have had it for a year.
Any helpful suggestions?

Loctite could be the solution of last resort.

It's not your Base3. You are actually hearing the coupler actually fire? Getting the buzzing sound? Don't disconnect it from the board as that will damage the board if it fires for what ever reason. You have clean track? No flickering lights in the engine?

Loctite could be the solution of last resort. Glue? Sort of you use it to mainly keep screws from backing out on their own. I would believe that with a drop or two it would work the same way on a coupler pin to keep it from opening. Loctite is a brand name. Pretty much available at any hardware store. It comes in different strengths depending on if you may want to remove the screw at some point or not.

You have clean track? No flickering lights in the engine? No, the Base 3 does not affect other MTH locomotives. No, I don't here the coupler fire or the buzzing sound I did clean the track no light flickering

This could be the coupler circuit shorting on frame.
Inspect wires between electro coupler and board.
Check for damaged wire insulation or conductor coming into contact with frame.
This kind short can destroy the board if you don't correct it.

Global e made sense for me. I don’t have DCS and I don’t use any remote uncouple feature. Stays shut, I ‘lll take it.
But suppose I needed a new board? Where do I take my MTH locomotives for repair?
