To Lionel 6464 boxcars, never can pass up a good deal even if I have numerous versions of a specific or the same boxcar. The latest addition which I already have the same boxcars came in the mail this past Sunday. USPS delivering packages on Sunday, strange. Bill

They are very cool, so I understand the addiction. The only cure is to purchase one of every single version made.

I've always want a State of Maine box car. Mostly because I like the colors. I was going to build a consist, but I never got around to it.

I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but I have quite a few, nearly all purchased as components for sets. Here's one of the 6464s acquired recently, a repop of the 6464-400 B&O Timesaver car from the series made in the 1990s and early 2000s: The colors were outstanding on the originals, and this was carried forward on the remakes.

When I was collecting mainly postwar the 6464 cars and GG-1's was the addiction I had almost every one of each After the postwar selloff it was Atlas O reefers Mister Muffin and myself were having a race to get them all Now its the MTH 36 foot reefer The thing about Lionel's Postwar 6464 boxcars is that it WAS POSSIBLE to collect them... wasn't there something like 33 of them or so? So that's a somewhat finite number for us mere mortals.
When Atlas-O started producing those 40' reefers, I thought they'd be the modern era's version of 6464's in terms of collectables. I think Atlas-O made 4 or 6 models at a time. But then they started doing "custom runs" (usually by dealers, then some clubs got into the action too). Then multiple roadnumbers of the same livery. THEN they kept producing more and more reefers like they were going out of style. And before you knew it, you'd need a friggin' WAREHOUSE to display them all. Once the reality hit that it would be a near impossibility to collect the entire series, it was like a light-switch turned off in my head. And I was CURED of "reefer madness"... just like that.

I had a bunch of the AtlasO reefers so many that I looked at them and said whoa!!! When guys started offering me exorbitant amount of money for some of my cars I decided it was time to sell. You can't believe the amount of money that was being offered especially for the first run of the reefers. At the time I made so much money I could buy all locomotives I was hoping to buy. It was a crazy time to say the least. I had one guy on ebay ask me if I ended the auction I had on for $75.00 he asked if I would take $800. I confirmed it with bob Thatcher if he thought the guy was legit. Bob knew him and said to me, sell it!
The rest is history. Now I have the 40' reefers from MTH.
