Team - Just a heads up if you purchased the new Triplex. If you address via the 4 digit address you will see the following issue. Unfortunately, the only fix is to send it back to Lionel to fix.
Sean Trains alerted me to this issue. If you only use the 2 digit address it appears you are okay but will not be able to use the feature.

Another reason not to buy the first version of anything.

Another one bites the dust. Seems these things are doing all sorts of crazy things in 4 digit address mode!
***Update 10/23/24 -It appears that some boards need to be flat out reprogramed or replace regardless of 2 or 4 digit addressing ***

Also note Sean's trains did a great review of this locomotive with a fix for the whistle steam issue. Yes unfortunately another expensive locomotive you need to take apart...

Did he take apart the Halloween one. He never said when he reviewed that one. Seems some of the problem maybe fluid getting to the whistle steam side of the smoke unit on some of these. I'd be interested to see if he had to adjust the Halloween Tri-Plex.

I will have to ask. He may not have had one reviewed yet. Our colleague ran his at our club and I did notice it was running a bit weak.

Another reason not to buy the first version of anything. First version of what? The current generation of Legacy boards have been out a few years now.
If you are savvy with taking your engine apart. Lionel allowed me to send just the RCMC board in for reprogramming under warranty for my J3 hudson with five chuffs. Will they allow this now, only a call and ask will answer that.

A Lionel Triplex. This is the first version of that engine for them isn't it? Let them work out the kinks first then I may be in the market. In my buying habits this practice applies to new versions/models of automobiles, appliances, stereo equipment, mobile phones, you name it. As for being savvy, it is less that than the concern of voiding the warranty if any manufacturer (not just Lionel/MTH) asserts that in my DIY activity I did some damage.

It is the first release for this engine. Which VISION LINE was supposed to be THE ONLY RELEASE, but that has changed over the years. I think they had a bad run of RCMC boards and the programing did not happen correctly. But there other features that will need some 'rebuilding as well. Just a nature of the beast of buying one of these.

This is a software issue not mechanical, the engine itself is MTH tooling. Again what first run or isn't every engine that Lionel does a first run so to speak?
JDaddy, what other issues are there? I'm working so no time to watch the video.

Well the Whistle steam issue seems to be an assembly error. Note that Sean speaks to reorienting the resistor in the smoke reservoir as well.
I think I can repair this myself, but the software re-flash is a non start for me. So it will have to go back.

My issue is it will go Fedex and I haven't had much luck with them of late. Goodluck.

Yes Fedex is a disaster here. I think they drop kick it from the truck to the porch on purpose. UPS is the best in our neck of the woods.

The rub is when the shipper uses a service which is good in their area, and not so good in yours. I once had a package peppered with fragile stickers with the full imprint of a work shoe on the box. Thank heavens for robust packing material.
