Hi folks,
If you missed out on The Train Loft's custom-run Vision Line Big Boy earlier this year, here's your chance at a similar paint-scheme in the form of Lionel's H7 locomotive (cataloged in 2024 Volume 1), which Lionel's webstore currently shows having an estimated ship-date from North Carolina of 10/31/2024 -- just a couple of weeks away. I teased about this offering awhile ago, but today it was officially announced as a D&RGW Big L-131 Legacy steam locomotive with 2-8-8-2 wheel configuration.
This might just be the closest I've seen a custom-run locomotive officially announced so close to it's delivery date. So production quantities (I'm guessing 40 units) were established without any kind of pre-order period to test out the waters. Pretty gutsy move, if you ask me. But the Big Boy version of this paint-scheme sold out rather quickly. It IS quite an eye-catcher. And an MTH R50B express reefer and matching Atlas-O ribbed passenger cars are also planned for those who want to make a Ski Train, (in case you missed out on Lionel's 21" passenger car Ski Train from a couple of years ago).
Certainly a nice "York Week" surprise. Here's what it looks like:

In advertising they have what is called a make good for ads which do not run for whatever reason. Rather than issuing refund (heaven forbid) the station runs the ad at a subsequent comparable time in effect making good on the missed initial ad. With the Big Boy version selling out rather briskly this engine may be the comparable make good for those who missed or could not/ chose not to afford the Big Boy. While certainly eye catching dazzle dazzle fatigue may occur in the long run. Regardless a welcome relief from the basic black. Are sunglasses included?

OOF another locomotive that I would love to have. Why so many great releases at one time? I can only afford one or two engines a year and the M1 and the F19 has me tapped out. These will sell out quickly.

Looking at this offering Train Loft could easily sell another 40 locomotives in its prototype green boiler paint scheme.

Great looking train for sure! They should do well with it.
