This thread is not about the Everly Brothers, Bill Halley and the Comets, or the Platters. It’s about sounds from Lionel accessories of the 1950’s. The accessories are wired to bush button controls (90 and 96C) on the Secondary Control Panel on my layout. Recorded in the 2-minute video are 125 Whistle Shack (10V), F3 diesel horn 1.5V D battery, 145 Gateman (13V – too high), and Ringing Banjo Signal (10V, Marx). Alfred youtu.be/SAqUfN3RmDg

I know all those sounds.I got started in post war back in the 50's when I was a kid and up to the 90's it was all we had. Buzzing, ding, bells was all we had and we thought it was great. Although I don't have those trains anymore the sounds will always be with me. Thanks Alfred for the remembrance!!!

REAL "model train sound effects"! And they are FREE!
And the smell of the ozone! YES! Don't need "smoke fluid" either!

Even more interesting than the sounds are the ancient newspapers that my Grandfather wrapped some of those items in for storage after the Christmas season.
One old Philadelphia Bulletin page has advertisements for Union Pacific and I think Santa Fe freight and passenger service.

Brian, that is interesting about the newspaper wrappings; especially about the freight service. It is interesting to do the newspaper archeology. In my case, I recall the 'Christmas' smell on some of the newspapers that I had my trains originally wrapped in - it may have been from candels or the artificial spray scents that were used at holiday time.
