Use a date of 1995 on, Mine is a1996 Union Pacific Lionel gp9 set With Tmcc, sound. The sound was in the dummy. It still runs as smooth as it did when new. Being my first command engine it has been run alot!!! Never a issue!! Not as detailed as the more modern locomotives but it has been a very sturdy set of engines that just keep on running. not bad for a 28 year old locomotive! Dave

The oldest modern era (post 19th Century) engine I run would be this Ives from 1906.

Hmmm, post 1995?
Id say my MTH first run UP Big Boy and SEPTA AEM-7 with Protosounds 1.
My first command control locomotive is the Lionel scale TMCC UP SD90.

I misread the question. The oldest modern era engines I run are late 1990s MTH. I’ve got two very early MtH that has some basic sounds. One is a ten wheeler and the other is a doodlebug. They run strong.

This is an interesting post. I am enjoying hearing about the equipment. Since I don’t have any modern era equipment, I’ll take a different approach. My ‘newest’ old era engine is a Lionel Santa Fe ALCO(No. 218) from 1963. It has not bee run for over a year and a half. Perhaps it is time to get it on the tracks. Alfred
