Saw this on YouTube. Guy stands in the middle of the tracks within 600 feet of the Big Boy coming down the rails. Doesn't take much to fall, get a foot caught, etc. Even the kids on the right hand side are a bit concerning to me.

People don't realize that putting your foot/feet walking on the rails is inherently dangerous. One slip off a rail can cause you to crack your ankle (hinge?) bone resulting in permanent practically unfixable damage.

That and the train crew has no idea what you are doing and possibly do. I haven't done much lately but when I rail fan, I maintain a decent distance from the tracks especially when a train is approaching.

You see this a lot, on virtual Railfan. People standing in the middle of the track. Horn blaring, not moving until the last minute.

Idiot. Plus, he didn't look too steady when he finally did move and started climbing the hill.

No respect for the railroad or their operators. People are just dumb.

The ignorance is everywhere. A sad, glaring example was the fatality in Mexico when a woman tried for a selfie with CPR’s 2816 Empress steam engine approaching behind her. Standing too close, she was struck and killed.
The attitude that I find annoying is this all-pervading romantic idea of walking down the middle of the track to have video and photos taken. There was a Canadian case of a wedding party surprised by a tourist train and barely making it off the tracks - also the tragic case in Georgia where a film crew was set up on a bridge of all things, and one crew member died. The film company had been denied permission TWICE and went ahead anyway.
As long as we have that mentality around the Darwin awards will add up.

Hey DennyM....let me add the great Ron Whites' observation that "you can't fix stupid". Or, I think it was Foxworthy who said, "here's your sign"....lol

If you want to see stupid, watch people arrive at the station and cross the tracks to get to their train. Nobody looks either way to see if a train is coming. The poor Septa engineers must age with every trip. It is amazing how so many people don't look when crossing the tracks.
