Christmas might still be 3 months away, but METCA is delivering their Lionel Legacy A5 models now — one of which is the “Silver Hooves Railway” Christmas steamer. The other model is the Halloween offering — arriving just in time for Halloween-themed trains this year. Much more budget-friendly than the Halloween Triplex too. And since Lionel’s Halloween F-19 is heading back to China now, METCA’s A5 is the only Lionel game in town for Halloween that’s easy on the wallet.
Having said that, I might need to snag the Halloween model, before they’re gone. But for now, the Christmas A5 was my preference for pre-order. So that’s what’s here now. And upon first glance, this little steamer is quite the eye-catcher. Graphics and details are superb! From a raw color perspective, the as-delivered model has what I'd call a satin-red finish. Not a glossy red finish, which for some reason I had in my mind from the early description as being "candy apple". Although this is not the glossy red I expected, it's not enough to detract from an otherwise intricate paint scheme. I was particularly impressed with the way in which Santa's reindeer appear on the tender (see photo), as well as the font effects used for "Silver Hooves Railway". Deco schemes have certainly come a long way. Very cool indeed.
Take a look at these iPhone snapshots. Video to come soon. So stay tuned!

Playing around tonight, and put a quick video together featuring this cute little engine. After all, it’s never too early to get into the Christmas spirit. Even Home Depot has their Christmas decorations on display already.
Enjoy!!!

Stu might be able to confirm this... but I noticed the METCA Christmas A5 has disappeared from Metca's store website. So it might be gone... gone... gone already. The Halloween A5 is still there, however.
