I was very surprised to see how much higher both Conventional Classics and Post War Celebration train sets are selling for. Case in point, my Lionel PWC Congressional set which I bought for less than $600 brand new on ebay years ago is now selling between $900 and $1500 depending on if you still have the boxes and are either sealed/mint or NIB. My conventional classics less so, but all are selling much more than what I bought them for. Do I plan on selling them? NOPE! IMHO, there are no replacements for these. For that matter, as much as I like Menards and LionChief+, IMHO those are still very pale in comparison to any of my MTH PS2-PS3, Lionel PW, CC, and PWCs. In fact, even my Williams trains have gone up big time, especially my Scale GG-1s.

So you chose wisely! In any case those models would not be made now for the prices you got them at then.
I do wonder though how many actual sales there are at the higher level.

In today's world you have to choose wisely, prices being so high it has stopped me from buying new. No way can I afford or do I want to so I prefer buying on the secondary market. If you look carefully there are deals to be made. Although prices are rising there are tons of stuff to be had.

I have all I need, and nothing new made is either in my price range and want/need list. Although, I like the Menards buildings and will buy some.

I just looked on e-bay and did not see any completed auctions/buy it now that were in those price ranges. I went back a couple of months. I have the Berkshire conventional freight set and I can’t give it away. I did post it here for $350 and nothing.

Not to be captain obvious, but asking and actual selling price are 2 different things.
In my opinion I feel places like eBay are a great source of what items are actually worth. Not some silly outdated guide book.
