Does anybody know who ended up with the tooling for the MTH Premier C&O Kanawha 2-8-4? The original releases are somewhat scarce, and priced accordingly when they do show up. Seems like there would be demand for a re-run by either Lionel or MTH.

Since Lionel has there own version of that, I imagine MTH still has it.

Although both share the same 2-8-4 wheel arrangement, and same size drivers, at 69” for both, that’s about where the similarities end. The Kanawha has a distinctive taper to the boiler, more so than the NKP Berk, plus, the dome arrangements are completely different…..

Sadly there was no list of what was sold and what was retained by MTH. Only way to find out is when MTH does a re-release or Lionel list something in their catalog.
Another MIA tooling is the NYC/PL&E A2 berk mold. That would be a big seller if it's released again.

Very true. The only other proper model of the Kanawha (not just a Berkshire in C&O garb) in 3-rail O is by Right of Way, and the MTH is much better detailed. I think it even compares favorably to the 2-rail Max Gray and US Hobbies versions.

And they have nice big Pittmans, correct? I'd like to eventually get one and ERR it, but at the prices they seem to fetch these days I'm going to have to wait!

They’re both still DCS, ……they are really a fine model!…..truly a pinnacle in 3 rail die cast …..really goes to show MTH was setting the bar very hard,….not to get off subject, but in my mind, MTH’s pursuit for modeling accurate & crisp details, combined with robust drivetrains, kept the orange box folks in check,…..with MTH not a “major” competitor, it seems the orange box people can try to get away with murder,……one only has to look at the two distinctively different Dreyfuss models recently released by both……’nuff said,….😁
