a heads up...MTH DCS Commander remote For Beginners part:1 (thought and review ) (www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe46y7Rhm5w), Does show BOTH remotes. Interestingly upon reading the comments on all three videos there is some misinformation. One video says the commander remote WILL NOT RUN STEAM ENGINES. If true why did they pack it into the RTR set with a steam engine! The other set I have is a John Deere diesel set (same year - 2002 RTR set) which I may point out came with the same setup but only had the earlier remote (missing Volume, Couple, Sound, SU/SD buttons). That set is 5Volt and has the round black charging jack underneath. That engine runs fine with either remote commander remote and the MTH Explorer. The steam engine does not! Not even with the remote commander that it came with in the RTR set! It originally did run but the set sat packed away for a few years since then. Again as a reminder , there is no battery! This is a loco-sound engine.
As stated in an above message, the engine DOES work as mentioned but will NOT work with either Commander remote or the explorer. (NOTE if the explorer is powered up and you place the steam engine on the track it will take off at full bore, as mentioned above)
