Way back when 30+ years ago.... when there was fear and caution of putting your full name on the Internet, I decided to create an email address with my name Ron.
I knew Ron would be taken and was Ron1, Ron2, etc. So I thought I would use my college basketball number 45. Do you believe Ron45 was already taken?
I still wanted 45, so I just put an 0 in front of it. My email was ron045, so I just made my screen names the same. I have never been denied ron045 at any site.

Old Compuserve screen name -- basically my first name and location. When asked where Cattail Creek is, I'd usually respond something like, "From the Atlantic, head up the Chesapeake Bay, and hang a left after the Bay Bridge into the Magothy River. Bear left at the fork into Cattail Creek, and after the first hard left bend, you're looking right at at our house!" At least someone didn’t ask, or say, “Wear the fox hat!” No, and if they had, I probably would have said "It's wear the fox you think it is!" No Miller for you, TD . . .

Back on the old Atlas O Forum and AOL I had wanted “Trainking”. But some stooge already used it so I improvised. I like trains and I like diesels. I also like steam and electric locomotives but I was in a hurry and didn’t feel like putting a whole lot of thought into it. I tossed in an exclamation point for good measure when I joined here. And here I thought it was just a clever spin on Vin Diesel.

Post by Country Joe on Sept 8, 2024 15:17:30 GMT
When forums first started many years ago I had to come up with a name. I was born and raised on Long Island in Glen Cove, NY. When I was growing up in the 50s and 60s there was a considerable divide between NY City dwellers and Long Islanders. City folk saw us as country bumpkins and we saw them as inept cidiots. We took considerable pride in being country folk so adding country to my name made sense, thus Country Joe.
In case anyone’s interested, my name has nothing to do with Country Joe and the Fish. I liked that band in the late 60s but lost all respect for him when he turned up as a disco singer in the late 70s.

I'm kind of hooked on all-things vintage. If it's old, or at least looks old, I like it. Old music, old books, old cars and trucks, old musical instruments.... Yup, you got idea. Now I found this Marx m10005 train set and I'm on a new, ok old, adventure. -Tim

Elblumbo was a college friend's idea of a joke about me being a dashing Mexican. (I'm not dashing anymore, and never was Mexican).

Just memorialized the name of a great buddy (Mr, Meep) who also really enjoyed the trains, both the "crummy basement layouts" and the Christmas trains. He loved to just sit and watch them and was fascinated by the sights and sounds.
I have used a lot of my katz' names (past and present) in my internet exploits. Different than most screen names out there.
Mr. Meep (that was the noise he made "meep"!) gone but not forgotten.

Based on where I live next to Patapsco state park in Maryland. The B&O mainline runs up this area. Part of the line were straightened back in the Early 1900s and the original roadbed is path to hike or ride.

Very cool...I'm just up the road from you in Westminster, location of the founding of the Western Maryland.
