The MTH Z 750 puts out 75 watts of power. I think that would be sufficient for your engine.

If you are thinking about expanding your layout I would get the Z1000 but for what your thinking of getting the Z750 will be fine.

It's how many feeders you have and use the correct gauge wire. Of 60 feet of track use 14 AWG wire around the layout and 18 AWG feeders every four to five feet and both side of switches/crossings. If you have a TIU or plan on getting a TIU rev L or the new WTIU home run wiring is not required and optional over bus wiring.

Good for a Christmas tree set up, not expanded or larger pikes. I just use the X-former to power the DCS TIU. Tried to run old PW Lionel and MTH on a medium layout, not to good. I think, is never good enough, LOL! It's not power, it's resistance, which will kill a large layout. You can have all the power in the world, but with high enough resistance there won't be enough current.
As mentioned, larger gauge wire and feeder drops will overcome any resistance in the track.
