I was running my 400E with PS1 and I was running it real slow, it stopped and now won't go either direction, like it is locked in neutral.

I would never thought that I would have sounds with a bad battery, then got thinking, ( yes that is a very, very, very bad thing for me to do ) so maybe the track power still gives me Bells a steam sound, Lo and behold it does, Took out the BCR and replaced it with a substitute that someone mentioned back when I first got this. ( boy is there a lot to take a 400E apart and put back together, but I did it. ) and it works again, so thanks healey36 it fixed it. The BCR became a basket ball right into the trash can

Lucky guess...
Do you have to use an MTH pack to do a reset? Check your loco’s manual...I think there might be a way to do a reset using any pack.

You don’t have to use a MTH transformer, but the Z4000 does make it a little easier,…you can see the voltages you need to crest to make the reset work……so if you have panel meters, it’s basically the same thing….. All the battery or BCR does it provide a short supply of power for sound only while you switch directions.
All power comes from the track. When you switch directions you are momentarily turning off power to change the polarity on the track.
The battery or BCRs is just keeping the sound on for that very short time frame.

You can diagnose a bad battery if your sounds are working When you power your transformer off the sounds should stay on for a little while If the sounds cut out immediately your battery is NFG A bad battery in a PS1 engine can scramble the marbles of the electronics but it doesnt necessarily ruin them The video above isnt really a full factory reset A reset 18 is a full factory reset That can be done easily with a z4000 QSI also marketed an item called Electronics Power Programmer that enabled you to use most transformers to do a number of things with QSI and PS1 engines I just sold my last two of these

You are dealing with 25 year old electronics. If it is scrambled and you cant find any one with the chip to reset it and it's not just the battery. You may be looking at new electronics.

These basically had the Bilt A Loco motor in them, I just happen to have an extra, not sure how strong it is. But also for about the cost of these guys on eBay want I could get ERR electronics, not worried about sound really. if it had come to that, but it is running fine for now again.

Took out the BCR and replaced it with a substitute that someone mentioned back when I first got this. BCR's are warrantied for life. Call JW Electronics. They will replace it.

You dont need a chip to reset it!! If the sounds are working the electronics are fine its just locked in neutral Dont waste money on new electronics just find somebody that can do a reset 18 on an mth transformer I also have seen PS1 engines that wont move with a BCR but when I put a Tenergy battery in it they work fine
