I had identified about $9,500 of products from the catalog that I wanted. ($4800 in 2008 dollars). I wasn’t going to spend that much of course, on trains anyway. I had narrowed it down to just two items, which still would cost about $3,800.
But it all got shelved when our car’s engine decided to call it quits. We nixed an $11,000 repair bill on a ten year old vehicle and ended up buying a new one last week. I’ll just have to hope I can find the catalog items a few years down the line. This could also derail our York Meet trip. Sorry about your car. If it derails your York trip, all I have to say, "SAY IT ISN'T SO JOE" I will really miss the both of you, "well for a few minutes" btw I will miss seeing your wife, You EH!!!! your buddy, Dave

Brian, I really don't know whether to "like" this or not but anyway I really feel for ya. Been there . . .

Did I order anything from V2 2024?
I posted earlier, no I did not, I have more then enough to make me happy but I did say well you never know. I did receive a few items over the summer, both used items but stuff I have been looking for. Not Grail items but a few I really wanted.

Some of the AEC stuff looks interesting, but only if the dealer pricing isn't MSRP extortion-like...hoping for some set break-ups.

Don’t recall seeing set breakups by a dealer in quite awhile, but individual pieces show up on online auction sites pretty quickly. I agree, it’s not like the old days.

I have not seen break up of sets for awhile. Wish they would go back to that. There were always cars and engines that you would like to have but didn't want to buy the whole set. Maybe a dealer will get it started one day.

As with many above, I have a few volume one and custom runs presently on the table. But I did order the following.
Area 51 hot box reefer (1) Area 51 8k tank car (2)

Some of the AEC stuff looks interesting, but only if the dealer pricing isn't MSRP extortion-like...hoping for some set break-ups. I never see dealer set breakups anymore. Does anyone know of any? It seems to me that the set breakups recently have been limited to Lion Chief starter sets such as Area 51, Halloween, and some Christmas. I am certain there are/will be others. It even extends to track such as Halloween orange Fastrack, and green LED Fastrack from Halloween and Area 51 sets respectively. Historically the Lionel LTD sets with the nice glossy box lids of the 70s and 80s were ripe for breakups. But that was when these sets were in the $300-$400ish range not several thousand dollars. It may be the cost of current sets that is the main impediment. That and the trend toward Ala carte offerings to create your own set may have made set breakup somewhat obsolete, or greatly reduced.
