Just thought I'd get a feel for what was of interest from everyone. A few things caught my eye but I ultimately went with the Halloween "Doom Liner" Legacy PA AA, the Superbass B and all of the passenger cars. I mean c'mon; the engines are black and purple with creepy accents and the matching passenger cars have purple-tinted windows (at least from the renderings), I mean talk about cool.

Nothing from the catalog but to be honest I have more than I ever can use. But you never know.

Nothing from the catalog but to be honest I have more than I ever can use. But you never know. Dave Same here but I'll add that I have more stuff awaiting repairs/completion of building/mods than I can manage in my available time. Besides, I did not think that the catalog contained anything exceptional or at least not given my interests.
However, I have given in to getting a black UP auxiliary water tender that I only found out about from a posting here. This is a dealer custom run and caught my eye because it is flag-themed and in all respects a very nice scheme. I have a black version of UP 8444 that it can run behind. This is a combination of dealer artwork and and a photo I have borrowed from RockyM's original thread on this as I have not received the item yet:
I'll make the obvious point that these days the Lionel catalog is only part of the picture because of the sheer number of dealer custom runs - including the so-called uncatalogued ones from MTH.

I ordered the daily special...three eggs over easy, wheat toast, and four pounds of bacon! Ohhhhh, the catalog? Nothing there to need or get excited about. Except the next train I desire. Y'all know the feeling.

Y'all know the feeling. Now THAT was funny. I prefer rye myself and the bacon needs to be thick-cut. What IS the next train you desire?

You make an excellent point. A lot of dealers are coming up with their own concepts, prototypical OR fantasy, so this could be the next wave in new products; that is if the manufacturers are willing to not only accept the concept but produce it at a "realistic" price.

I ordered the New Haven mountain with the Vanderbilt tender from Charles Ro. One of my fellow club members ordered that one too. Those vanderbilt tenders really give it some umph. They weigh almost as much as the engine pulling it.

Dave I'm with you there Dave but sometimes, something just catches your eye and you know you'll regret it if you don't pre-order it because you know once it hits the retail/e-commerce market, the prices will skyrocket, that is if you can find it at that point. I've come across things "pre-owned" that I never knew existed and as a fan of the "off-beat" and fantasy stuff, I'll jump on it.

I had identified about $9,500 of products from the catalog that I wanted. ($4800 in 2008 dollars). I wasn’t going to spend that much of course, on trains anyway. I had narrowed it down to just two items, which still would cost about $3,800.
But it all got shelved when our car’s engine decided to call it quits. We nixed an $11,000 repair bill on a ten year old vehicle and ended up buying a new one last week. I’ll just have to hope I can find the catalog items a few years down the line. This could also derail our York Meet trip.
