When can we start the new thread? when the new catalog comes out? How about during and after York? Now? Anytime?
The above may be a joke but why did we close the thread? The OGF can talk about any subject as long as we abide by common sense courtesy towards each other. I have been a critic of Lionel and MTH and others but mostly Lionel for their BTO policy, quality control and pricing policy. I'm sorry if this upsets some people but nothing ever gets better unless we discuss what we feel is wrong in our hobby. Besides we all know what will happen when the new catalog comes out and discussed. Its a right of passage to complain when you see a wrong.
By closing the thread means we may of hit a raw nerve with some entity or someone and we caved in to their demands to close the thread.
I am disappointed in this ill advised decision.
Dave

As a participant in the thread, it seems to me that we were just going in circles after circles with no resolution. No hearts or minds were changed.
Same stuff different day.
The discourse was for the most part polite and civil so no nerves hit on my end.
However enough seems to be enough.
To quote the Talking Heads the thread seemed to be 'On the Road to Nowhere' and had become IMO with all due respect; pointless.
And to be clear, I did not complain.
I am no fan of locking threads, however except for those late to the party I find it difficult to imagine any new insights that have not already been expressed.

Dave I don’t understand it either. I started the thread because I was curious about how Lionel prices from the 1940s and 1950s compare today. Apparently, instead of taking in a good natured way, some people became upset. Oh well

Apparently, instead of taking in a good natured way, some people became upset. Oh well No, I think 'chuck got it exactly right. The same old opinions were being repeated, and instead of a productive dialog and exchange of views, it was devolving into "who can repeat themselves the most?" AFAICS, no one here has been offended by something that was said, and reacted by closing out a productive discussion. Rather, after the same points have repeatedly been made by the same posters, it's time to move on, and when those same posters refuse to take a hint, moderator intervention is IMHO called for. Yes, standards on this forum *are* relatively loosely written and enforced, but *someone* has to call the ball, or it's potentially just chaos. Good call, IMHO . . .

I'm normally not in favor of much moderation. But in the past few weeks, our moderators have done us a huge favor. When a thread spirals into an abyss of one or two posters saying the same thing over and over again, the thread becomes pointless.
If you have a point to make, say it... and move on. As the old adage goes, "Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

So when the next catalog comes out in January 2025, will the inevitable threads complaining about Lionel prices be locked and nipped in the bud?

So when the next catalog comes out in January 2025, will the inevitable threads complaining about Lionel prices be locked and nipped in the bud? Only if the thread gets to 5 or 6 pages, and folks are still arguing what a “train set” is. Capiche???

Est-ce que tu comprends? (I’m French Canadian, not Italian)

Lets wait and see, till then-------------- What is the purpose of this link? You have posted it twice now. Colloquially, "bring out the popcorn" (or in this case, a link (or two) to a vintage promotion for refreshments, shown between feature films at the movie theaters 'back in the day') is an anticipation of some upcoming entertainment, during which the audience can just lean back and watch the performers. In the context of an on-line discussion, "watch these idiots, who are about to make fools of themselves!"

Perhaps madockawandoSenior can extrapolate to current dollars. Alfred Alfred, that 773 Hudson would cost $588.44 today. If Lionel made a 773 Hudson today it would be sold for at least triple that $588.44.
... and now for something different ... About 20 years ago, I bought a lot of trains on ebay. Included was a variety of good engines and rolling stock. There also was the tender for the773 Hudson. Since the engine wasn't there, and I was not likely to get one, I traded the tender for two post war Lionel diesel engines in very good shape. Alfred
