Hello Guys ! I need your help... OK, I may be blind or idiot , but I don't see how this type of cars can be opened to install their lightening - which is provided with it, and is safely packed inside ! (in a plastic bag, visible at right) These are O gauge Lionel / Williams RI cars - I have a set of three that I use with my IVES by Williams #1694 engine. Pictures : Details of one of them (N° 1687) : As you can more or less see inside through the windows, there's a "mechanical springy device" attached to the center of the roof, with two spring-recalled slider knobs protruding at L and R. I ingenuously think that, for installing the internal lightening system, you would need to remove the roof of the car - am I right ?I primarily thought that this mysterious inside device was some kind of locking, liberating the roof when the two slider knobs are pushed (last image). Nope... I am puzzled ! Oh, I'm sure that I miss something, or I do not have the right procedure ! Would you - Knowledgeable US Tinplate Trains Specialists - tell me how this car roof dismantling operation can be done properly ?Thanks in advance... OACE

When you push the “two spring-recalled slider” tabs forward, it should release its grip and allow you to remove the roof. You might have to lift/jiggle it a bit to get it off.

So the roof lifts, not slides - right ? I just have to insist gently to make it lift, if I understand correctly... Wait and See ! OACE
