I got a text from Bob Phillips. Tom McComas (TM Books & Video) is in a bad way. He has dementia and it's as bad as it can get.
He is a big component to the hobby. His videos featured private layouts and how to videos also the I Love Toy Trains store which is in Michigan City, IN. Right now the future of the store is unclear. Maybe his son will take over.
I've known Tom for several years and if it wasn't for him I would have never gone to York or have the layout I do now.

He certainly was a fun guy. Terrible to hear of someone with so much technical ability and love for the hobby slip away with this disease. I still watch the old DVDs when I get the chance, and his reference books on Lionel are still among the best.

Very difficult to read these posts, where life's ailments and diseases chip away at what we remember to be the prime of one's life. And ultimately, we're all called home.
I think I still have some TM Video Toy Train Revue videos on VHS no less -- stashed away in the archives. And I don't even have a VHS player anymore. Also too many TM Video DVD's to mention... but they ran the gamut from Toy Train Revue to Tinplate Legends to Celebrity Train Layouts to Great Toy Train Layouts of America. Wow... What a legacy Tom created that inspired so many of us -- whether we had dreams to build our own basement empire or simply a confirmed armchair enthusiast enjoying the hobby vicariously!!!

So sorry to hear this and really hits home. Having lived through this with my dad, it is excruciating to seem them mentally fade away until they are just a physically just a shell. My deepest sympathy extends to Tom and his family.

I too am sorry to hear this. I've never seen any of the videos but I have the complete set of reference books on Lionel trains he and Tuohy wrote many years ago. The series is still a good reference for things Lionel.
