I won't be there, but three club members are going for the first time. Two of them like to spend money so I'm anxious to see what they bring back.

Well you never know who you will run into at York.
First it was Traindiesel, not only once but twice! In both instances I was going out to my 4 Runner boxes/bags in hand. Traindiesel was food in hand and then food in mouth! Whatever he was eating did not look like what I saw him bring in! And that gastronomic delight was dripping who knows what more than a melting glacier. What a treat to make his acquaintance. The twinkle in his eye betrayed his impish sense of humor. Long may it wave!
Then I ran into Mr. & Mrs. Big Crabecake who I directed to the E Hobby Tools Lemax Halloween/Christmas booth. That is a dangerous site for seasonal layouts!
After that where in the world is Tri State Trains with Ben doing solo not anywhere near where the floor plan had him? I suspect tension. But none the less I found him to pick up my 4 MTH Heinz woodside reefers. Lovely!
You know how Traindiesel says that he goes where the voice tell him, well I had a similar out of body experience with an individual non dealer seller in the Orange Hall. I do not know what made me take closer notice to his table which I had just passed a few minutes ago. It was pure chance. There it was the MTH Dorfan standard gauge engine that I had been looking for to pull my Floridian passenger set. Kismet!
Joe Grozyboski was his usual helpful and affable self. A class act in every respect.
A stop by Hennings to pick up the New Hope & Ivyland ballast cars was next. They look great trucks and all! Thank you to rocky mountaineer for lightening my wallet once again.
Speaking of Dave, a stop by METCA to pick up my Halloween and Christmas A5 engines and matching box cars. Stunning. Dave you had better snag that Halloween engine or you will have regrets unlike Edith Piaf who had none.
With me picking up so much prepaid stuff I hardly spent anything at all! Rationalization alert!
I had originally figured that today was one and done, however in spite of having to endure the west side of the Baltimore beltway to get to York I may just saddle up and have at it again tomorrow.
I mean how much fun can you have for the cost of a soft pretzel and watch Traindiesel not mess up his nice shirt?

I really miss going to York but I had alot of emails and phone calls letting me know what I'm missing out on. Heard good reports on the new RMT box cars and tankers. Looks like AtlasO is stepping up with their new tooling of the 73' lumber cars and other cars. Heard the place was crowded also. Darn I wish I was there but health comes first, see you guys in April.

Had a good time with my son. Much more crowded on day one today than last April.
People looked to be buying. I found a nice Atlas Box car at Trainz. I decided to walk around and buy it on my second time around. Another fella picked it up 30 seconds after I put it down. Ok... Good for him.
I was tempted to buy a VO1000 or an SD35 from Nassau Hobbies, but I really wanted a UB23 from AtlasO. I could not find that today. So no engine purchases.
I did find a nice MTH Cheasie 2 bay hopper for a very nice price and I purchased a piece of Atlas 2R flex track for a track kit bash project. I will share my results with you all soon. I did some work on it tonight and it's almost complete.
The only person I recognized was Marty. We passed each other in Gryzyposki's trains and exchanged a hello.
Hope everyone else there had a good time. Vr Ron

On balance IMO this York meet was a complete success not just from my perspective of purchases, but the attendance was noticeably up Thursday and way up Friday. Every dealer/member I engaged in conversation or bought from expressed positive remarks for their sales. It was noticeable having a Thursday/Friday perspective in the member halls, that sales had been brisk based upon the lack of inventory on the tables in many instances day over day comparison.
Silver and Blue Halls were quite active both days, despite some apparent no shows in the Blue Hall.
The Red Hall slightly less active on Friday.
The Hall adjacent to the Red Hall (White?) seemed the least active with a noticeable number of empty tables.
Purple Hall was the biggest surprise with some really good stuff at really good prices for both seller and buyer.
However the unfortunate area wide power interruption early Friday afternoon put a pall on activity throughout the grounds, the least affected hall apparently being Orange. Please no conspiracy theories!
IMO the Achilles heal for the swap meet aspect of York is the pre war/post war, non TMCC/Legacy engines. Rolling stock seems less susceptible to some extent. The folks who love that era are sadly leaving us at an accelerated rate. It is not unlike music where otherwise fine recordings of artists still familiar to some of us are only marketable to those who no longer care or are no longer with us. Selling to the deceased is not a viable business plan.
Think I am nuts? Consider where the YouTubers hang out; the Orange Hall. I rest my case. While the York meet may not be what it used to be, there is still a good measure of vitality that belies any talk about the death of the hobby.

I only spent about 4 hours in the Orange Hall on Thursday afternoon. The crowd was slightly larger than Thursday afternoon for the April 2024 show. But the Orange Hall "crowd" never approached the busiest levels I typically see when I'm selling at Allentown ATMA.
I was able to stroll casually at York and never bump into anyone. That's not at all the case in Allentown -- especially when the show opens at 8AM for early-bird ticket holders. And by 10AM, it's all out shoulder-to-shoulder people in the aisles. I never experienced that at York in recent years... although I was admittedly long gone before the member halls closed on Thursday -- which likely brought a surge of people into the Orange Hall later in the day.
In any event, I'm not surprised to see an uptick in attendance for October vs. April. October is after all the start of "train season", and folks just seem more willing to spend in October as compared to April when train season begins to wind down.

I wasn't able to go, but I did score a 430 power station (nib) for about 1/2 what others have been selling for. on the Bay.

I didn't see any fellow forumites on Thursday...and I saw the attendance at all the halls were just shy of medium attendance. There were many vendors selling at reasonable prices. I saw one Grandpa leaving Orange Hall with grandson in tow, and at least three sets such as the Polar Express, Harry Potter...that's a lot of $$$$ ! Glad to see Roger Carp hanging out at the Classic Toy Trains table...showing interest in HIS public/customers will keep that magazine alive! What a congenial guy.

Since when is one allowed to film in the member halls?
