My want-list is very specific. I usually check the following with varying success:
eBay Trainz Stout Auctions Cabin Fever Facebook (I've found an item or 2 but one needs to be careful) Mercari

Keep to well known sellers, I stay away from private sellers unless you know them. too many scammers!

I have a list of items I could add. But I'm a patient man so I look here and local, and EBay. At present looking for a 16" K Line Diner for a friend as a gift and for myself a ABA or AA Freight SF F3 with command control or legacy. There are a dozen or more items I would like to add, but I'm patient when the item is great as well as price.

An eBay standing search has usually listed what I am after - otherwise you have to watch the main train auction sites like Trainz and Stout.

Years ago, I would be all over the net looking for items. I seemed to have calm down a bit and really only regularly look at Trainz for my "White Whale" items. Very infrequently ebay, if I happen to be logged on looking for something else. I really get satisfaction finding great buys at train shows. I just love buying something like this... and creating this...

Mr. Muffins has auction once a month for a week. I found many things over the past year. I look at Trainz, Ebay, Mr Muffins. I stay way from Cabin fever and Stouts. There up charges are just stupid crazy.

Most of my train purchases are at train shows and my local train store, but in the past year I’ve made one purchase on eBay and two or three on Amazon. I only use online purchasing when I can’t get something locally.

Mr. Muffins has auction once a month for a week. I found many things over the past year. I look at Trainz, Ebay, Mr Muffins. I stay way from Cabin fever and Stouts. There up charges are just stupid crazy. I've purchased a few items from Mr Muffins auctions. There are no fees and the shipping is reasonable. The only thing is the starting prices are usually quite high. It seems to me that any bid is the winning bid as it's the only bid. I purchased an item on Stout's one time for $350. After fees and shipping it was close to $475. My deal went from good to not so good. I'm always amazed at the high prices the auctions end at. Makes me think maybe I should leave instructions to my daughter to have them sell my stuff when I pass.

Not sure I will be patronizing Muffin now or in the future.
I was shopping on his website one time put an item in my cart and checked out. Then I received an email.... Oops sorry, we didn't really mean to sell that. It's supposed to be an auction.
From my perspective, too bad. You had it up for sale, sold it, then reneged on the deal.
My son brought a brand new MTH SD45 from them. He had a problem with the engine running smoothly. He called them about fixing or replacing under warranty. They declined his request.
Two customers lost.
