Thought I'd alert some of you folks who plan to drop a few bucks on Lionel's new catalog... Looks like Mr. Muffin's Trains is offering a buy more / save more approach to pre-orders, with extra discount prices kicking in when you reach different spend levels.
Case in point: I added $5K worth of product to the shopping cart, and that garnered roughly $500+ in additional savings... even besting some Charles Ro pricing. The wildcard however will be shipping costs. If Mr. Muffin's charges actual shipping on these items, the savings vs. Charles Ro pricing might meet or possibly exceed Charles Ro's overall grand total, since they only charges $10 for additional shipments on the same pre-order ticket. And when those shipments involve big-ticket items like locomotives, $10 is a great deal for those additional shipments.
Your mileage may vary... but it's always worth checking out your options.

Wait, I'm sorry I just have to ask: are you saying that you are planning on spending $5k on Lionel products after the Yueltide debacle, not to mention all the other recent Lionel paint and truck/coupler screw ups? If so, now I think we all know why Lionel keeps producing crap without regard to QC: because people keep buying it... Sorry, but this is UNBELIEVABLE.

If so, now I think we all know why Lionel keeps producing crap without regard to QC: because people keep buying it... Sorry, but this is UNBELIEVABLE. No... you've jumped to the wrong conclusion(s). I added $5K worth of product to the shopping cart solely to determine what kind of discount level Mr. Muffin's Trains was offering off his regular website pricing. And then compare that to the Charles Ro pricing. Steve's email indicated $3k, $4k, and $5k thresholds.. but didn't define the discount level. So I was curious what they were.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm getting away light with this catalog... just some miscellaneous pieces of rolling stock... the flatcars with Westinghouse and Beth Steel loads and perhaps the AEC tanker that will go nicely with the glow-in-the-dark set catalog'd in 2024 Volume 1. MAYBE a Y6b, but that remains to be seen. It's a very freeing feeling to browse a catalog and no longer make a huge pre-order list. Those days are history (for me).
