Just got a notice that East Broad Top will be offering routine excursions on various equipment including a 100 year old gasoline powered doodlebug. The only one in the United States. I may need to put this on my list of places to visit since I live in the King of Prussia area and it would be a day trip. More information will be in the Philadelphia Inquirer in Tuesday 7/9/24 edition.

Oh how I use to enjoy going to the King of Prussia mall when I was a kid. I miss the whole area, but to expensive for me now, and to cold for me in winter

Being that close to the EBT it would almost be a crime not to go and visit - it is truly a gem of eastern railroading. You should print out a copy of the picture below so that when you go you will have some idea of the extent of the efforts of the preservation group. The picture was taken from the hill overlooking the coal dock back in 2010 during one of the last days of operation prior to the shut down. When you get there take a picture from the same location and post it here so all of us can see the improvements/changes.

Just to give you some idea of what has been going on - I found this aerial view of the restoration effort as it looked about a year or two ago. The second picture is a ground level shot I took back in 2010. Notice the condition of the buildings in the background of the 2010 shot and how they look in the aerial view...the restoration effort has moved far beyond the aerial view but the contrast between the two pictures does give you some idea of the changes. 2010 ground level view

I just went to the EBT last weekend for a Train Ride and Trolly ride. Do both, get a discount. Well worth it. The backshop tour is a MUST. Worth every penny if you like history and railroading.
When we went two years ago, they could only turn the engine on the Y. They have completed it and can now turn the entire train. VERY COOL INDEED.

I was at the EBT several times over the years. My last time was in the late 80's or 90's But I have kept in touch on the upgrades they have done. I would love to go but my balance is just too bad to visit places like that anymore.
Born and raised in Philly and have lived in Chester county for most of my life. Btw the KOP mall is huge and has been expanded several times over the years. It is the largest mall in the United States for retail space. Looks like they may expand again if they can get the land. Its about the only mall left in the area. Exton, were I live had the Exton mall but that is basically gone. Mostly medical offices. The Springfield mall in Springfield is closed and the Granite run mall in Media. is gone. Online shopping killed the malls except KOP!!
